Dear Reader,
Weβre celebrating World Bicycle Day by endorsing these two wheeled modes of transport as todayβs Climate Champs. Cycling instead of driving for short trips would cut about 75% of our emissions from travel. From the first time Dot pedaled down her neighborhood street on her bright red CCM (Canada Cycle & Motor Co., for my neighbors to the South), kitted out with training wheels, I was all in on bikes! (Indeed, as you read this, Dot is cycling her way across the Greek Isles.)
Want to make a bike your main source of transportation? Read what cycling enthusiast (and former Bluedot web guru) Kelsey Perrett has to say about the path that took her from committed car traveler to bicycle booster.

Kelsey Perrett can't believe she ever choose car travel over the freedom of two wheels. |

For tips on how to safely and pleasurably navigate urban streets, let the owner of New York Cityβs Bike Plant set you up with tips and tricks.
And, finally, for a fascinating glide through the history of bicycle-inspired devices, donβt miss pedal pusher Ron Johnston-Rodriquezβ story for Bluedot, in which he notes that bicycles βoffer a more robust alternative for operating hand-powered appliances (e.g., grain grinders); a climate-friendly mechanical alternative to grid-sourced power; and a source of electricity when no other option is available.β
Dot wishes all of you happy cycling!
Wheelingly,
Dot
