Dear Reader,
Dot was once lucky enough to hold a koala bear. It was a bit smelly, but also β¦ adorable! So it delights me no end to share news of the new Great Koala National Park in New South Wales, created to safeguard not just these cuddly and endangered teddy bears, but also 66 other threatened Down Under animal species and 37 species of threatened flora. βIts creation was the culmination of a 13-year campaign led by environmental groups and grassroots organizations,β reports Mongabay, [and] βthe new park will link existing conservation reserves with state forests, creating a protected area of almost 5,000 square kilometers [about 1,900 square miles], making it one of the largest reserves in NSW.β

In news that reminds us that beauty can emerge from devastation, Germany is turning former coal pits into Europeβs largest artificial lake landscape. Euronews tells us that βwhat was once considered a wound in the landscape is gradually becoming one of the most unusual paradises in Europe.β Whatβs more, since the lakes are ideal for swimming and boating, the project will provide tourism and regional employment.
And finally, Feel-Good Friday goes to Disneyβs Tomorrowland, where the racetrack attraction Autotopia goes electric β a change Disney announced a couple of years ago, but which is now imminent. A former, snarkier Dot might note that, as a leader in its industry, and with the eyes of children (and a lot of Disney-loving adults) on them, Disney might have converted Tomorrowland, well, yesterday. But todayβs Dot simply applauds the change.
Positively,
Dot
