Dear Reader,

Today’s Feel-Good news features a high flyer who traveled β€” non-stop!! β€” 8,400 miles from Alaska to Tasmania. Named B6, the bar-tailed godwit was just four-months old when he undertook his journey, considerably younger than others of his species who make the trek. The juvenile didn’t stop to eat, rest, or drink. Godwits are amazing birds, and this young one is particularly incredible. Read more about him … and his compatriots here.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, farmers are using the indigenous practice of agroforestry to replace degraded pasture with β€œfood forests” β€” dense, mixed plantings of fruit, nut, and other productive trees that help restore soil, counteract emissions, and provide incomes to local farmers. They also provide habitat for animals.

Read all about how a past practice is taking on new roots in Brazil

Also interesting: Some trees recognize relatives, according to a study on Douglas-fir trees in England, which revealed that they send more nutrients to members of the same, ahem, family tree.

Positively,

Dot
