Dear Reader,
The extended Dot Family has nine birthdays between April 28 and June 7, so there has been much merrymaking and celebrating of late.
And I have been able to enjoy it all with no eco-remorse, thanks to an earth-friendly party kit I assembled years ago and keep at the ready. It contains a full array of supplies, all picked up at thrift stores, antique stores, and yard sales: cloth napkins (they started off white but got stained from years of parties, so I recently dyed them a lovely shade of blue), cutlery, a tablecloth, jars repurposed as vases that I fill with flowers picked from my and/or my neighborβs gardens.
My Bluedot colleague Emily Cain also loves to entertain β an urge, she tells us, that she inherited from her mother. (Mother Dot was also the consummate host.)

If you have some summer get-togethers coming up, youβre in luck, because Emily has compiled the Bluedot Guide to Sustainable Celebrations, which means everything youβve come to expect from Bluedot: easy on the planet, easy on the wallet, and easy on the host, while preserving all the delight and beauty that should accompany any celebration. Emily takes it next-level, with lovely dried flower garlands and the scent of citrus simmering on a stove. (Donβt forget to use The Guestimator to ensure you donβt end up with food waste.)
Earth-friendly party tips of your own? Please share them so we can try them out at our own gatherings.
Celebratorily,
Dot
