Dear Reader,

We know that EVs aren’t a one-size-fits-all solution to climate change, but we can still celebrate the impact that the growing demand for electric vehicles is having on the burning of fossil fuels.

According to the International Energy Agency, β€œBy 2030, EVs will displace more than 5 million barrels of oil per day (equivalent to a nearly 5% reduction in total demand), with China responsible for half that amount.” Indeed, China’s rapid adoption of EVs is leaving the rest of the world in its dust. How are they doing it? Government incentives help, but so does the price tag. EVs in China are cheaper than their internal combustion engine equivalents.

This isn’t EVs’ first go-round. The New York Times reports that there were plenty of them on the road a century ago (one still resides in Jay Leno’s garage). This time, however, Dot predicts that EVs are here to stay.

Gaslessly,

Dot
