Dear Reader,
We little folk can feel discouraged sometimes at how massive (and urgent) our climate crisis feels and how little we feel our actions matter. The thing is, small actions — when done collectively — turn into big impact. What’s more, some of those “small” actions can pack a big environmental punch. Case in point: Eating more plants and less meat. One 2023 study found that even shifting from high-carbon meats to low-carbon ones could reduce the average American’s dietary carbon footprint by up to 38%.
But … I get it. Shifting to a plant-based diet can feel daunting. And dull. Note, however, that veganism has come a long, delicious way.

Not ready to go whole hog on plant-based eating? That’s absolutely fine. Less meat still makes a positive impact. I consider myself a reducetarian. While I save beef and pork for special occasions, I still eat poultry and fish a few times a week. Plants just make up a bigger portion on my plate. Healthier for me, healthier for the planet.
