EVs have gone from the stuff of science fiction to the ho-hum. But that doesn’t mean everyone is ready to jump on the clean-car bandwagon. That’s why SDG&E teams up with San Diego company EV Options to host “Ride and Drive” events, so the curious can take a spin in a couple of EVs without any sales pressure. |

Dear Dot,
What has been your most popular advice of the past year?
– Dot
Dear Dot,
Bluedot’s web wizard, Kelsey, compiled a list of Dear Dot’s most-popular columns. They run the gamut from poison-free pest control to investigating why cashmere, emblematic of luxury, has become so darn cheap, to determining whether wildfires give us great sunsets. Let’s get started.…

During a recent visit, her mother-in-law asked her how she kept her stemless wine and water glasses so clear. Cleaning praise from one’s MIL?! It doesn’t get better than that. Pet insurance could help you offset rising veterinary costs
|
 |
Veterinarians nationwide reported that corporate managers pushed clinics to focus on profit, with vets often paid based on revenue. This encouraged them to see more pets, order more tests, and upsell services, creating a growing burden for uninsured pet owners. Pet insurance could help you offset some of these rising costs, with some providing up to 90% reimbursement. View Money’s top pet insurance picks to see plans starting at only $10/month. |

Tradeoffs and Trade-Ins |
As Earth Day approaches, we're reminded that an uncomfortable truth one learns when researching environmental issues is that there are no perfect solutions. As economists put it: “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.” (We even shorten it with the acronym TANSTAAFL.) EVs, while definitely preferable to gas cars, aren’t perfect. They’re nowhere near as good as bikes and transit, which generally are not as convenient or useful. Travel, which Mark Twain once observed is “fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness,” results in pollution. But it can also help restore ecosystems and provide greener economic development, and continuing Twain’s quote, “many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.”
While there are no perfect solutions, we’re constantly empowered and inspired by learning how much our choices do matter. Because they do. Every day we have the opportunity to do better, for ourselves and for the world. Seize the opportunity!
The challenges we are facing are huge, but the people (like you) working to solve them are brilliant and tireless. We love sharing their stories, and we hope you’ll help us by contributing to our journalism, subscribing to our newsletters, and forwarding this email to your like-minded friends.
We’ll see you in two weeks.

We live in San Diego and love the opportunity to be on the water and in the mountains in one day. Nicki, a writer and editor, and Jim, a writer and environmental economist, are excited to combine skills as the editors of Bluedot Living San Diego. Since we’re avid cyclists, you may see us riding along the Silver Strand or hitting the trails in Cuyamaca (probably not on the same day). Thank you for joining us on this Bluedot ride! |
