This year, for only the fifth time since 1900, Hanukkah begins on Christmas Day. As always, Iâve got a lot of wrapping to do. Early last month, I confided to a friend that I was starting to feel overwhelmed, and she gave me a compliment that thrilled me. âYouâve got this,â she said. âYouâre a power gifter.â A power gifter! I felt seen. Appreciated. Whenever my eyes started to blur as I searched for the best gifts to share with you, I reminded myself: âIâve got this. Iâm a power gifter.â

Part of power gifting, Iâve decided, is always being ready with the right gift. I usually shop all year long, picking things up as I see them. And while Iâve done some of that, I still need to scratch a few people off my list. Iâll finish up next week, when Iâll be on vacation in Paris and have the opportunity to visit the worldâs most famous flea market: the legendary MarchĂ© aux Puces.
An expanding Notes doc on my phone details the vintage items Iâm seeking: a statuette for my Nutcracker-obsessed niece, picture frames for the parents of three brand-new babies, a trench coat for my husband, and, if I get lucky, a pair of Georgia Jacob resinated fabric lamps from the 1970s (pour moi).
