California has typically been America’s way-out-in-front family member: the one that jumps on — that kicks off! — every new trend. But when it comes to adoption of electric vehicles, California has to cede its title to … Colorado. Colorado now leads the country in electric vehicle sales, with EVs making up 25.3% of new vehicle sales in the third quarter of 2024, 82% of them fully electric. It’s thanks to some great incentives, including rebates and tax credits.
But Colorado can’t hold a candle to Norway, which is about to become the first country in the world to almost eliminate sales of new combustion-powered cars. It’s an achievement made possible via a multi-pronged approach that included lots of options (more than 160 electric models available), great incentives, and a bustling economy.
