Dear Reader,

Bestselling author John Gray might have posited in the 90s that men are from Mars, but I don’t think he was proposing a return to the planet that, an Atlantic writer noted, has β€œa very thin atmosphere; it has no magnetic field to help protect its surface from radiation from the sun or galactic cosmic rays; it has no breathable air, and the average surface temperature is a deadly 80 degrees below zero.”

And yet … a few billionaires are working to transport humans to this noted hellscape, where we would likely live in tunnels and grow food under UV lamps.Β

While Dot applauds exploration and those who are challenged by the seemingly impossible, I have little time for vanity expeditions undertaken by those supporting the destruction of the planet we currently inhabit.Β

So Dot’s with Neil deGrasse Tyson. Give me Earth, this pale blue dot holding things as magnificent as sea horses, as adorable as snow monkeys, as stunning as canyons and mountains and waterfalls. As delightful as you, Reader.

And let us all use our energy and ingenuity to protect it.Β

Rootedly,

Dot
