Dear Readers,
I have big news: We’ve recently launched a new digital magazine, Bluedot Living Kitchen! You’ll find easy-to-make recipes, inspiring stories, and smart tips on reducing food waste and shopping sustainably. The first issue features our award-winning journalism, with articles on kelp farming; growing a healthy tomato garden, the importance of wild rice to Minnesota and Indigenous people, and how Maggie Baird (mother to superstars Billie Eilish and Finneas) started a nonprofit dedicated to fighting food apartheid and climate change.

Olive Oil
|
I loved Graza’s fabulous single-varietal olive oils (“Sizzle” for cooking, “Drizzle” for finishing) when I first tried them, but lamented the plastic packaging. Happily, they just launched an innovative refill program, which I immediately tested. It couldn’t be easier to pour the oil from the cans into the bottles, and I’m happy to have their Spanish EVOO on hand once again. Read our review. |

Sea Salt
|
Our Boston editor and Good Libations columnist, Julia Cooper, first turned me onto Saltverk. The Icelandic company uses geothermal energy to convert local seawater into delicious salts. Julia enjoys the Flaky Sea Salt so much she snacks on little pinches of it; my favorite is the Black Lava Salt, which I especially like for cocktails. Read our review. |

The New York company offers seasonal specials, including pastas made from local heirloom grains. Have fun trying out the wide variety of shapes, and don’t miss their innovative Cascatelli, designed for “maximum sauceability.” Read our review. |

Rice and Rice Noodles
|
The inky purple-black Forbidden Rice from Lotus Foods has been a staple in my pantry for over a decade. The California-based B Corp sells heirloom, organic, and pigmented rice varieties, such as Forbidden Rice, Jade Pearl, and Bhutanese Red. All taste great and elevate home dining. And, they’re grown using innovative water- and methane-reducing techniques. Read our review. |

Beans and More
|
If I don’t have time for dried beans, I choose Eden Foods’ canned beans, which are toothsome, flavorful, and organic. The company, which has been in the natural foods business since the ’60s, also offers great Japanese staples such as sesame oil, brown rice vinegar, ponzu sauce, umeboshi plums, and more. Flour and Baking Needs
|
King Arthur Baking, an employee-owned B Corp, traces its history back well over 200 years. Its popular White Whole Wheat Flour comes from regeneratively grown wheat, and the company pledges that its other flours will follow suit by 2030. New and experienced bakers alike will appreciate their well-stocked online shop and myriad online classes. Read our review. |

Every eight-ounce pack begins with a half-pound of ingredients, guaranteeing deep flavor. A new, shelf-stable formulation streamlines shipping (and makes it more eco-friendly). Read our review. |

Baking Chocolate
|
If you’re not always able to mix up some cookies or a cake, your pantry isn’t complete. We recommend keeping Guittard in the cupboard. The company has good labor practices, transparent sourcing, and participates in the Cocoa & Forest Initiative to help safeguard cocoa-producing environments. It also tastes great. Read our review. |
